Imperative mode and its tags.
THE IMPERATIVE MODE ampliación (B1 y B2)
Para nivel B1 y B2, añadimos varios aspectos al imperativo. Pero primero tienes que repasar por tu cuenta el archivo sobre IMPERATIVE QUE ENCONTRARÁS EN EL NIVEL A2 DE ESTA GRAMÁTICA
- The imperative can be used in the emphatic form ( insistence) adding DO (which is stressed):
– Do come as soon as possible!
Me recuerda al español
“Te digo que vengas enseguida ¡!!”.
¿Ves qué categórico suena?
- * “Always” and “never” must be placed before the verb in the imperative:
– Never answer this question.
3) LET’S = Let us = 1st person plural= a suggestion.
Te acuerdas que decíamos: El imperativo está referido casi siempre a la 2ª persona, singular o plural. Pues aquí ves por qué decíamos “casi siempre”.
Come on! Let´s twist again….
Venga, bailemos el twist otra vez!
Sugerencia, consejo, ánimo para la 1ª del plural.
– Let’s go to the cinema at 2 o’clock.
* In the negative form = let’s not …
OK….but in the colloquial style familier “don’t let’s” is frequently used…
– Let’s not leave home so early… = Don’t let’s leave home so early…
Pero lo reservamos al aspecto coloquial. Por ejemplo, con un amiguete en el bar….
Venga, déjate de tomar otra cerveza y vámonos a casa
Come on, let´s don´t have another beer….and let´s hit the road ¡!!!
En un email de trabajo, en la oficina…. ¡pues no!
Let´s not have another meeting!!!
4) In order to soften orders, make them more polite, the question tag following an imperative must be put in the INTERROGATIVE FUTURE .
– Let’s wash up immediately, shall we?
Esta coletilla “shall we? Es como en español “¿Te parece?” “qué te parece? ¿Cómo lo ves?
– Write your answer now, will you?
Por último..
- ****Indirect imperative=
-imperative + pronombre de complemento+ infinitivo (Dile a ella que se anime: Tell her to cheer up
o también el infinitivo en negativo
Tell him not to come to my party.
