149.-Thanks to…..B2

Thanks to…..

Thanks to God, I made it to the wedding.

O también puedes decir: Thank God

Pero NUNCA (resiste la tentación)…. Thanks God

NO EXISTE….la “s” aquí sobra.

I notice these all the time with learners, so I thought I’d highlight a very common express everyone should be using correctly: thanks to…

This phrase means “due to,” or “as a result of,” and it’s great for both casual and professional communication:

Thanks to the great weather, the outdoor concert was a success.”

“It was thanks to her hard work that we got the project done on time.”

You’ll even her Americans using it with a sarcastic tone (and a negative meaning) in sentences like this:

Thanks to you being late, we missed the bus! Great job!”

Now, because this phrase is often used when praising someone, I’ll hear learners say “thank you to” instead of “thanks to.”

Thank you to your help, we won the construction contract.”

You can correctly say this as:

Thanks to your help, we won the construction contract.”

or…

“Thank you for your help. We won the construction contract.”

Just remember that “thanks” is more casual than “thank you,” but even in a polite or professional setting, you’d use “thanks to” when describing a reason or consequence.

“Thanks to you reading this, you now know a little bit more about sounding native!”
